University at Albany GIS Implementation

Albany, New York

MJ was responsible for modernizing and updating the GIS system at the University at Albany. MJ used Real Time Kinematic (RTK), GPS location, and 3D laser scanning to update the database. MJ created a GIS database that included as-builts of physical structures, signage, utilities, drainage structures, storm sewers, topography and buildings throughout the campus, particularly in areas of new construction. MJ imported the GIS data using ArcGIS 10.

The new GIS system combines high-quality data and powerful software to make a staff friendly structure for the SUNY Albany staff. The database contains real-time, geospatial data and mapping of the SUNY Albany campus. This reduces the need to resurvey and map the site on every new project.

MJ received the 2013 Diamond Award for Engineering Excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for this project.
