University at Albany, Emerging Technologies & Entrepreneur Complex (ETEC)

Albany, New York

The University at Albany (UAlbany) established a state-of-the-art Emerging Technologies and Entrepreneurship Complex (ETEC) as part of its research, education, and economic development initiative. The University redeveloped 12 acres in the southwest corner of the Harriman State Office for this $184M facility.

MJ was responsible for all site/civil design, including ADA accessible routes, pedestrian sidewalks, a new parking lot, landscaping, pavement, utilities, site grading, stormwater and permitting, SWPPP, drainage, soil erosion control, site lighting, vehicular and other pedestrian amenities. MJ designed the parking lot to accommodate an additional 805 vehicles per day. MJ also designed a new pedestrian boulevard to link the UAlbany campus with the site on the Harriman campus.

A key project component was a traffic impact study and parking analysis. MJ prepared the study to quantify and evaluate the impact of the building on traffic circulation at the campus regarding traffic mobility and parking demand. MJ developed an understanding of existing conditions and developed a baseline condition assessment of major intersections and parking areas central to the core of the campus.
