MJ was responsible for stormwater analysis, which included determination of the stormwater collection capacity for the five Fort Drum watersheds totaling over 20,000 acres. Responsibilities included the development of HydroCAD models for each of the watersheds, analysis of all proposed development in each watershed by fiscal year and the development of all stormwater controls for sites without existing designs, review of all existing stormwater designs and modeling prepared for Fort Drum and the incorporation of the modeling and designs into a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) for each drainage area.

Replacement of Mahan Hall Parking Deck

MJ was responsible for design and 3D laser scanning services to replace the upper roof deck parking structure of Mahan Hall, which is a part of the USMA National Historic Landmark district. Mahan Hall is home to the United States Military Academy’s Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and Department of Systems Engineering. A key component of the project was phased construction as to not disturb the cadet residents. Load rating analysis was conducted to ensure that the deck would withstand increased loads from construction vehicles.

MJ performed floodmapping and hydrographic survey of streams, creeks and rivers throughout New York State including more than 70 miles of the Mohawk River and the Erie Canal. The project required survey of all natural valley cross-sections and all hydraulic structures (i.e., bridges, culverts, dams, etc.). MJ was responsible for establishing LIDAR control points. All survey was performed according to FEMA's Guidelines and Specifications for Flood Mapping Partners.

Round Lake Bypass

MJ provided highway and bridge design services for the construction of the Round Lake Bypass in Saratoga County. The purpose of the project is to re-route commuter traffic around the historic Village of Round Lake. The project included 2.5 km of extensive earthwork / rock blasting removal, two box culverts, a 200-meter bridge crossing the Ballston Creek and a pedestrian bridge over the bypass. MJ performed site, civil, highway and structural design, survey and right-of-way acquisition mapping, and geotechnical evaluation and mapping.

Reconstruction of Route 67, Interchange 12

MJ performed complete preliminary and final design for the reconstruction of the I-87 interchange, and three additional intersections along NY Route 67. MJ was responsible for design, ROW survey and mapping, preliminary through final highway design including drainage design and preliminary bridge design tasks for the replacement of the NY Route 67 Bridge over I-87 at Interchange 12. The installation of five modern roundabouts was chosen as the preferred alternative.

Reconstruction of NYS Thruway Exits 23 & 24

MJ is responsible for providing daily construction inspection services for this pavement reconstruction and congestion relief project. The project work will include reconstruction of the pavement, with the addition of a 3rd lane in each direction, reconstruction of drainage facilities, vertical clearance improvements at overhead bridges, installation of 12 stormwater detention ponds to minimize the project’s impact to local bodies of water, 1.8 acres of new wetland creation to offset construction impacts to federal wetlands, and construction of 11,000 feet of noise barriers in nine locations.

MJ provided preliminary and final design services to connect the Riverfront Pedestrian / Bikeway Troy-Menands to the Corning Preserve and trail via the NYS Route 378 bridge. Structural modification to the thru-truss bridge was required to provide added width across the bridge. The project included the restoration and replacement of a historically significant ornate concrete wall along the Troy approach (Burden Avenue) to the bridge. MJ also provided construction inspection.

The particular areas being inspected included the grandstand area, grandstand roof, and third base bleachers. In addition, MJ provided a structural design plan package for the necessary renovations which would prevent further damage of the existing roof systems. The scope of services integrated a grandstand base roof plan, a roof demolition plan, and a repair plan with detailed specifications.

The DAV proposed to build an assisted living and skilled nursing facility for disabled veterans, utilizing an existing building in Rotterdam, New York. This facility would be the first of its kind to be constructed nationally. The DAV retained MJ to conduct a site visit/visual inspection and to develop a feasibility study for the proposed 160-unit facility

Skilled Nursing Facility

This design / build project includes a 240-bed skilled nursing facility on a 10-acre site. The purpose of the project is to construct a new building on the site, adjacent to an existing facility. The project is being completed in phases.
In the first phase of the project, MJ conducted a topographic and boundary survey, Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, rezoning application, SEQR assistance and a concept layout plan in support of rezoning the property. In the second phase, MJ developed site plan drawings and a Special Use Permit application for submission to the City of Schenectady Planning Commission.

Renovations to Veterinary Clinic and Stable

MJ designed renovations and additions to a 7,000-sq.-ft. veterinary clinic and stable at the United State Military Academy at West Point. The building was upgraded, while maintaining its historic features and characteristics. The project included a 2,000-sq.-ft. addition to accommodate relocated staff. MJ was responsible for assuring that the entire project was a sustainable LEED certified facility. This project utilizes MJ’s architectural, civil engineering, surveying and environmental services.
