MJ was responsible for designing a wetland to increase flood storage, sediment and pollution treatment capabilities and enhance the wetlands habitat on the peninsula, while meeting the ACOE and NYSDEC requirements. MJ designed the wetlands to be a waterfowl habitat, which is a less common type of wetland in the area. MJ will be responsible for performing annual monitoring of the wetlands for ten consecutive years. The wetlands are monitored for hydrology, vegetation health, the presence of invasive species and wildlife usage. Particular attention will be placed on the monitoring of the Broadleaf Cattail (Typha latifolia), which may be thinned out to allow for the propagation of other wetland species, as well as to attract a diversity of wetland bird species.
